Cumulus congestus Clouds
- Series I -

CuCong1.jpg and CuCong1.jpg: The cloud in the centre swells to the stage of a Cumulus congestus in the late afternoon. However no thundercloud was developed later on. The convective potential energy of the surrounding air was not sufficient to support the cloud up to its mature stage with precipitation. This could be due to the lack of water vapour in the atmosphere or because the temperature difference which generates the updraft was not significant enough.

Cypresses.jpg and TwoCypresses.jpg: The artworks by Vincent van Gogh show at the right side of the cypress an ascending Cumulus cloud at the horizon having reached the congestus stage. It is similar to the cloud which is captured on the two photographs. The drawing is exhibited in the Brooklyn Museum, the oil painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, both in New York City.
